Our Heritage

The Soul of Kannauj

A Legacy Etched in Time

Nestled on the banks of the Ganges, the ancient city of Kannauj has been the perfume capital of India for millennia. At Ittare, we are proud inheritors of this timeless legacy. For generations, master artisans have captured the essence of nature using techniques passed down through centuries.

Our itras are not merely fragrances; they are liquid history. Crafted using the traditional Deg-Bhapka method—a hydro-distillation process that requires immense patience and skill—every drop of our pure, alcohol-free itra embodies the spirit of its natural ingredients and the soul of its maker.

Rose Petals

The Deg-Bhapka Method

This ancient distillation technique uses copper stills (Deg) and receivers (Bhapka). Flowers are simmered gently, and their vapor travels through a bamboo pipe into a sandalwood oil base.

The oil base absorbs the delicate floral notes over days of continuous distillation, producing a deeply complex and entirely natural fragrance.

Alcohol-Free & Natural

We strictly adhere to alcohol-free formulations. Our commitment to purity ensures that our itras are gentle on the skin, deeply long-lasting, and offer an authentic olfactory experience.

Unlike synthetic alternatives, natural itras evolve on the skin throughout the day, creating a unique and personal signature scent.

Our Story

Every fragrance tells a story, and ours begins in Kannauj — the perfume capital of India, where itra has been coaxed from flowers and roots for more than four centuries.

Ittare exists because that craft deserves to be carried forward rather than replaced. Every bottle we sell is hydro-distilled in traditional copper stills by artisan families who have practised the Deg Bhapka method for generations. No alcohol, no synthetic shortcuts — only flowers, water, patience, and a sandalwood base that lets the fragrance settle and last.

What you wear from us is a piece of that heritage: the same craft, made available beyond the lanes of Kannauj.
